An uploaded document is not something you should simply assume was accepted.
EOIR states that Respondent Access displays the filing status and sends two emails: one confirming that EOIR received the document and another telling you whether the filing was accepted or rejected.
What acceptance means
If EOIR accepts the filing, the document is added to the electronic Record of Proceeding.
If EOIR rejects it, the rejection email should state the reason or reasons.
Build a filing-receipt folder
For every electronic filing, save:
- the final document exactly as filed;
- the date and time submitted;
- any confirmation number or screenshot;
- the receipt email;
- the acceptance or rejection email; and
- a note showing the deadline the filing was intended to satisfy.
This makes it much easier to reconstruct what happened if a filing is later questioned.
If a filing is rejected
Do not assume a rejection automatically extends the deadline. Review the reason promptly and obtain qualified legal guidance if the filing is time-sensitive.
